About our goal

One of Melanoma New Zealand's key goals is to attract melanoma research studies to New Zealand.

Melanoma New Zealand runs a programme to actively encourage sponsors of clinical trials in melanoma to choose New Zealand as a country in which to perform melanoma research. We are in regular contact with sponsors of clinical trials and liaise with Principal Investigators across the country. We provide access to information about which clinical trials are currently recruiting and where the sites involved are located around the country.

"Living in a country with the highest melanoma rates in the world, we need to ensure New Zealanders get the most effective treatments available. Our best chance of achieving this is to have as many clinical trials here as possible, providing New Zealanders with this opportunity," - Gabby

"I've no doubt that being on a clinical trial saved my life. I believe that for late stage cancer clinical trials are part of the treatment paradigm and should be an available option for all cancer patients who find themselves in the situation I did," - Ed

Aims

  • To provide a programme to actively encourage sponsors of clinical trials in melanoma to consider New Zealand as a country in which to perform their research.
  • To work with patients, melanoma oncologists, clinical trial sponsors, research groups, pharmaceutical and biotech companies to ensure that more clinical trials are performed here in New Zealand.
  • To work with clinical research personnel throughout New Zealand to establish an efficient and effective network for melanoma research and avoid working in isolation.
  • To provide access to information about clinical trials and the location of the sites around the country where the trials are run.
